About Us

Kia ora! New Zealand Pacific Studio is an award-winning residency programme, with an internationally-recognised operational model whereby a core of supported residencies are at the heart of our programme, and self-funded residencies are offered to selected practitioners seeking to develop their practice.

Founded in 2001 by Dr. Kay Flavell, we have hosted hundreds of creative practitioners from New Zealand and abroad.  They have made connections that enrich their own individual practice, as well as our local and shared communities. Together, we build personal and collective creative capability and solidarity.

From 2001 to 2018, we were based at the historic Normandell House, in Kaiparoro Mount Bruce, at the border of Masterton and Tararua districts.  We currently operate from homesteads across the region, pairing artists to appropriate spaces - most of our hosts are artists / writers themselves.

Kay Flavell manages our sister residency in Vallejo, California - information here.

We look forward to welcoming you!
