FELLOWSHIPS at New Zealand Pacific Studio

NZPS offers supported residencies or ‘fellowships’ through the generosity of sponsorships from individuals and institutions of the Wairarapa/Tararua community.

These fellowship opportunities - usually two to three weeks long - may change according to funding periods and may not be offered annually.  The sponsorships allow for accommodation costs at $350/week to be waived, as well as the $40/week local transportation costs. Fellowships are self-catering, and fellows arrange for their own transportation to the Wairarapa.

Most fellowships - the exception is the Lavinia Winter Fellowship - come with the commitment to extend community outreach, and NZPS assists with the logistics of arranging these activities.

NZPS may also host an Open Studio Day during the fellowship periods, at which all residents are invited to give short presentations to members of the public.

Fellows may choose to donate a work of art to the Studio or to their sponsor.

Fellowships are available to an individual. However, an applicant is welcome to propose a collaborative project, but the fellowship would only apply to the applicant and additional parties would need to cover the cost of their residency themselves. Additionally, an applicant is welcome to propose a project that extends beyond the specified period, but accommodation and transportation costs beyond the sponsored period would have to be met by the applicant.

Application notices for NZPS fellowships are listed on the ‘news’ section of this website, our Facebook page, and when funds allow, on The Big Idea New Zealand’s longest running creative website.
