Wellington-based painter and academic Lorraine Rastorfer has been artist-in-residence in both 2013 and 2014. Her residency was an opportunity for her to work with new media, surfaces, and scale to test ideas as well as spend time drawing in new environments. Only having 2 weeks at NZ Pacific Studio, her experiments were deliberately a beginning and all work produced was explorative and unresolved. Lorraine says: 'It felt great to reconnect with observational drawing by rivers and in the bush and I was pleased at how closely I could pickup ongoing central objectives from the past in this process. It has consolidated a desire to do more of this as a tuning and challenge to my usual abstract concerns and processes. I know that through a consistent working process the new ground covered will feed into my larger painting projects.'
